1st Stop – Cave City, Kentucky
Starting from Plymouth, Indiana heading south our first stop was Cave City, Kentucky – 318 miles and around 6 hours. Breaking in a new rig requires driving between 60-65 mph for the first 5,000 miles. And with a pet, our miniature schnauzer Shelby, rest area stops are needed!
Thoughts about our Motorhome: love being able to get up for drinks, to make lunch, stretch legs, and do computer tasks on the sofa while Mike is driving; love the roominess it provides when stopped; storage is so plentiful we have everything we need in our home of 6 months; diesel pusher is quiet and easy to drive; washer/dryer is a must being on the road for extended periods.
Things we found out the hard way: Be sure coach suspension is fully aired up before you drive; discover nuances of continuous hot water heater; when making RV park reservations be sure they have appropriate spots for your size rig and that there is an adequate way to get to your lot; when things go wrong call your coach manufacturer to find out who to contact for service.
Things you definitely need: Tire Pressure Monitor, leveling blocks, clear connector for sewer hose, appropriate power adaptors (i.e.,50-30), memory foam topper for mattress.
Things we have found very useful: battery powered leaf blower to blow off roof, around the campsite, etc; 6 foot ladder; propane firepit for places that do not allow burning wood; small electric heater to keep propane cost at a minimum.
Invaluable: Good Sam membership – pays for itself immediately, Youtube videos, google maps app, Allstays app.
