Greetings from the TOP!
The air is very thin up here!
The last 3 miles in the shuttle!

Pikes Peak is a legendary mountain outside of Colorado Springs CO. Perhaps most noteworthy is the Pikes Peak road race held every year. You can hike up, ride a bike, drive up or when it reopens in 2021 take the cog railway. I was skeptical about the drive, but if you don’t look over the edge to often you will be fine. The day we went up the temperature when we started was approaching 100 degrees, but at the top it was only 50 degrees. Dress appropriately if you are cold blooded. They are currently renovating the visitors center at the top, so there is no parking up there. You drive to mile 16 and take the shuttle the rest of the way up. The views are spectacular! It is a must see if you visit the area. We did not go this time, but you can also drive up to the summit of Mount Evans which is near by. One couple told us it is even more treacherous!! Allow most of the day for the drive up, sight seeing and the decent down……it is well worth your time. In all there are 53 mountains in Colorado topping 14,000 feet. We read about a couple of young men you had climbed them all! Imagine that! The trail which became the highway was started in 1887 and the cog railway was completed in 1891. Oh by the way…..if you are interested there is also a running race up the last 12.5 miles! If that is not enough you can run a marathon the next day that includes the decent! Oh to be young again!!
